The Wisconsin Muslim Civic Alliance (WMCA) serves as the political voice of Wisconsin’s Muslim community. Founded in 2019, WMCA strives to educate the Muslim community and its allies in civics, democracy, and related issues and to encourage participation in the electoral process. WMCA works closely with elected officials, candidates, and the Muslim community to advance issues and hold leaders accountable. WMCA is a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization. We are hiring an Executive Director (ED), a key management leader passionate about WMCA’s mission and organization growth. The ED will oversee the organization's ongoing operations and partner with the Board of Directors to review, develop, and implement strategic goals and objectives. The ED is responsible for the organization's financial management, programs, expansion, fundraising, grant-seeking, marketing, and community outreach. The position reports directly to the President and Board of Directors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors and membership.
  • Deepen and refine all aspects of communications — from web presence to social media to external relations to create a strong brand.
  • Work with the Board of Directors to develop, implement, and monitor creative operational strategies demonstrating thoughtful planning and entrepreneurial thinking. Responsible for the measurement and effectiveness of all operational processes, as well as projecting future goals.
  • Coordinate with the Board of Directors on strategic fundraising efforts. Take the initiative to review and implement a diversified funding base to continue cultivating WMCA’s mission.
  • Responsible for the organization's financial management, including working with the Board of Directors to develop and implement the annual budget.
  • Foster strong relationships and collaborate with partner organizations on program check-ins, proposals, and reporting.
  • Research and track elected officials, endorsed candidates, and legislation relevant to the Muslim community.
  • Increase the number of registered and identified Muslim voters in Wisconsin.
  • Serve as the leading voice of the organization at press conferences, media reports, and other public speaking arrangements.
  • Serve as the organization’s HR and build a staff of political organizers, fundraisers, and communications managers.
  • Ensure accurate cash flow and monthly expenditure reporting and track the organization’s financial activity.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work is required.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

Desired Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven leadership and management experience, preferably within non-profit organizations.
  • Unwavering commitment to WMCA’s mission.
  • Ability to build strong teams, demonstrating accountability and fostering leadership development among team members.
  • Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships.
  • Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.
  • An action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning.
  • Deep understanding of the Muslim electorate and issues related to the community.
  • Preferred experience working in Wisconsin politics and familiarity with elected officials.
  • Ability to effectively speak on behalf of WMCA in the media, conferences, and public events.
  • Cultural or personal knowledge and/or experience working in the Muslim community is preferred.

Work Authorization

Given political campaign finance restrictions, candidates for this position must possess valid work authorizations and cannot be foreign nationals. This means we are legally prohibited from hiring anyone for this position who is not a US citizen or lawful permanent resident (green card holder).

Location

This is a remote position based in Wisconsin. Madison or Milwaukee areas are preferred. Travel within the state will be required 10-25%.

Compensation

This position's salary is $80,000, and salaries are non-negotiable. We believe negotiating for fair pay can lead to inequities, especially for women and people of color, as experience does not always equate to skill, and opportunities for experience have been unevenly distributed across sectors. WMCA employees have promotion opportunities through annual cost-of-living increases and performance-based pay increases.

Benefits

Full-time employees are eligible for a benefits package including a 401(k) plan with employer contribution and match, four weeks of accrued vacation time, sick leave, paid holidays, skill development training, and more. Relocation assistance is available.
