We are currently looking for a Software Development Manager to help us deliver the future of AI and machine learning enabled software defined networks. You will own AWS traffic optimization software at the core of our global network. This Senior Software Leadership role will be responsible for a team of 30+ highly qualified Software Development Managers (SDMs) and Software Development Engineers (SDEs) who are experts in designing, building and operating traffic engineering solutions for one of the worlds largest networks.
Key job responsibilities
Working backwards from the customer translation complex functional and technical requirements into software designs.
Keeping your finger on the pulse of the constantly evolving and growing cloud networking field.
Building a high-quality team to build TE services for Amazon's wide area network.
Defining and implementing operational processes, tooling and team muscle to ensure that software TE services are always highly-available.
Delivering systems and features with high quality, on time.
Writing the vision and execution documents for your software services to align your peers and leadership on the end-state and current status of your TE vision.
Staying current on technical knowledge to keep pace with rapidly changing technology, and work with the team in bringing new technologies on board.

· 7+ years of experience working directly within software engineering teams
· Experience partnering with product OR program management teams
· 3+ years of people management experience, managing engineers
· 3+ years of experience architecting and designing (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
· In-depth knowledge of Networking
· Experience representing your team/technical area to senior management
· Advanced degree in Computer Science, mathematics, or other technical discipline
· Knowledge of Machine Learning, Big Data and/or Network software development is a big plus
· Work independently with customers, stakeholders and peers, and effectively balance their needs and requirements
· Work closely with the engineers to develop the best technical design and approach for service development and operations
· Build an effective development organization by driving the recruiting and hiring of senior level engineers, developing and managing the group, and conducting performance reviews of team members
· Create and execute against project plans, test strategies and processes for development activities in concert with business and project management efforts
· Providing clear and measurable visibility into project execution to senior leadership
· Experience presenting root cause analysis and error correction from operational events to senior management
· Working knowledge and experience of developing operational metrics

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $176,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $342,300/year in our highest geographic market.
