The Team

Are you passionate about Design Systems? Are you energized by working on a small team with a big impact? This could be the perfect role for you. We’re looking for a full time designer to design and own Upstart’s Design System. You’ll partner with Designers and a dedicated engineering team to take Upstart’s Design System to the next level. You’ll also be an integral part of our Design team where you’ll help inform the design language and cross-functional processes.How you’ll make an impact:

Position Location - This role is available in the following locations: Remote, San Mateo, Columbus

Time Zone Requirements - This team operates on the East/West Coast time zones.

Travel Requirements - This team has regular on-site collaboration sessions. These occur 2-3 days per quarter at our San Mateo or Columbus office. If you need to travel to make these meetups, Upstart will cover all travel related expenses.

How you’ll make an impact:

• You will lead the design of Upstart’s Design System
• You will take the existing basic Design System to the next level
• You will design, document and champion useful, usable and scalable design styles and components that our engineers and designers love
• You will partner with engineers to determine the best way to structure the system so it’s easy and fast to use for Designers and Engineers
• You will enable us to deliver simple and elegant solutions for our customers and lending partners faster and with incredibly high quality

What we’re looking for:

• Experience designing and scaling a Design System
• Strong portfolio showing the User Centered Design Process
• Figma guru, can easily manage libraries and educate others in Figma best practices
• Skilled at visual design and proven ability to design reusable components and patterns
• Technical knowledge (ie. HTML, CSS) that enables close partnership with engineering
• Clear communicator and collaborator who is comfortable giving and taking design feedback and justifying decisions
• Ability to drive projects to completion through your grit and your skill at motivating others

Preferred Qualifications:

• Systems thinking and logical thinking skills
• Ability to independently follow the Design Thinking process to solve problems
• Experience working with engineers in the Agile software development framework

At Upstart, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the below range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location–with our “digital first” philosophy, Upstart uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Individual pay is also determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

In addition, Upstart provides employees with target bonuses, equity compensation, and generous benefits packages (including medical, dental, vision, and 401k).

$159,000—$220,000 USD
