About the Role

Mini Katana is looking for an experienced paid media professional who can provide the strategy and execution capabilities of an advertising agency while working directly with our internal team.

A major focus of this role will be developing YouTube Shorts into a measurable paid-acquisition channel. You will use Mini Katana’s extensive library of organic content to identify winning videos, adapt them into paid creative, test different hooks and calls to action, and connect performance to sales—not just views.

You will also manage paid acquisition across Google, Meta, and other relevant platforms. This is a hands-on role for someone who can audit accounts, develop strategy, launch campaigns, manage creative testing, troubleshoot disapprovals, optimize performance, and report clearly on results.

Because Mini Katana sells swords, replicas, collectibles, and related products, experience advertising restricted or policy-sensitive categories is highly valuable. You must understand how to pursue legitimate advertising opportunities without placing our Google Ads, Meta, YouTube, or Merchant Center accounts at unnecessary risk.

Key ResponsibilitiesYouTube Shorts and Video Advertising

Build and manage a paid YouTube strategy with a primary focus on YouTube Shorts.

Review Mini Katana’s existing organic Shorts and identify videos with strong paid-ad potential.

Turn successful organic videos into multiple paid variations.

Test hooks, openings, calls to action, offers, captions, pacing, and landing pages.

Develop separate strategies for prospecting, remarketing, product launches, and audience retargeting.

Test Shorts, in-stream video, creator-led advertisements, and other appropriate YouTube formats.

Use Mini Katana’s existing YouTube audience and content library to support acquisition and retargeting.

Brief and coordinate editors and creators on performance-focused video variations.

Measure performance through clicks, conversions, CAC, ROAS, revenue, and customer quality—not views alone.

Build a repeatable system for turning strong organic content into paid acquisition campaigns.

Google Ads and Merchant Center

Audit and manage Google Ads and Google Merchant Center.

Launch and optimize eligible Search, Shopping, Performance Max, Display, and YouTube campaigns.

Review product eligibility, warnings, limitations, and disapprovals.

Determine which products can legitimately be advertised under Google’s policies.

Submit reviews or appeals when eligible products are incorrectly flagged.

Protect account health and avoid practices that could lead to suspension.

Improve product feeds, campaign structure, conversion tracking, and attribution.

Meta and Other Paid Channels

Plan and manage Facebook and Instagram advertising where permitted.

Develop compliant creative for policy-sensitive products.

Test prospecting, remarketing, creator-partnership, and conversion campaigns.

Recommend alternative channels when products cannot safely be advertised through mainstream platforms.

Evaluate relevant opportunities across TikTok, Microsoft Ads, programmatic advertising, sponsorships, and industry-specific networks.

Strategy and Optimization

Own paid-acquisition strategy, budgets, forecasts, and testing priorities.

Perform the work normally expected from a capable paid-media agency.

Build a structured creative-testing system across platforms.

Identify opportunities involving landing pages, website experience, checkout, offers, and conversion rates.

Work with marketing, content, creative, and website teams to implement improvements.

Monitor campaign performance and reallocate spending based on results.

Provide clear weekly reporting covering spend, revenue, ROAS, CAC, findings, and next actions.

Explain performance, risks, and recommendations to leadership in practical terms.

Requirements

At least five years of hands-on paid-media or performance-marketing experience.

Experience personally managing substantial advertising budgets.

Strong hands-on experience with YouTube Ads, Google Ads, and Meta Ads.

Proven experience running and optimizing paid YouTube Shorts or vertical-video campaigns.

Examples demonstrating how YouTube or short-form video advertising contributed to conversions and revenue.

Strong knowledge of Google Merchant Center and e-commerce product feeds.

Experience with Shopify or a comparable e-commerce platform.

Strong understanding of conversion tracking, attribution, remarketing, and analytics.

Ability to develop strategy and execute campaigns without relying on a large external team.

Experience briefing or directing editors, designers, and content creators.

Strong commercial judgment and comfort being accountable for revenue and profitability.

Excellent written and spoken English.

Ability to work independently in a fast-moving remote environment.

Strongly Preferred

Experience advertising swords, knives, firearms, tactical equipment, collectibles, or another restricted category.

Demonstrated knowledge of Google, YouTube, and Meta advertising policies.

Experience resolving Merchant Center or advertising-account disapprovals.

Experience working with an established direct-to-consumer brand.

Experience scaling paid campaigns using successful organic Shorts or creator-generated content.

Experience with creator partnership or whitelisted advertising.

Familiarity with Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager, Shopify, and reporting dashboards.

Agency experience managing strategy, media buying, creative testing, and client reporting.

Existing platform or agency contacts are helpful but not required.

What Success Looks Like

YouTube Shorts become a measurable and scalable paid-acquisition channel.

Strong organic videos are systematically adapted and tested as advertisements.

Creative testing identifies repeatable hooks, formats, offers, and calls to action.

Campaign decisions are based on revenue, CAC, ROAS, and customer quality—not views alone.

Eligible products are advertised without creating unnecessary account risk.

Leadership receives clear reporting and actionable recommendations.

Mini Katana develops an effective in-house paid-media capability instead of depending entirely on an outside agency.

Important Compliance Expectation

We are not looking for someone who promises to “bypass” advertising policies. We need someone who understands restricted-category advertising, can identify legitimate opportunities within platform rules, and knows how to protect the company’s accounts while pursuing growth.
