The Opportunity
Reporting to the Team Leader, Facility Safety, the Mechanical Engineer supports asset integrity and reliability of fixed equipment in support of US Natural Gas (USNG) facilities and pipelines. This position primarily provides technical support for overpressure protection equipment in managing the inspection programs, troubleshooting, asset improvement and technology selection with the secondary support for pressure vessels and tanks. Excellent written and communication skills, knowledge of mechanical equipment, equipment sizing, selection, and inspection methods are required.
What you'll do
Serve as Technical Lead to overpressure protection (OPP) equipment
Participate in Process Hazards Analysis (e.g. HAZOP, What if, LOPA, etc.) and Pre-Start Up Safety Reviews for facilities
Assess/size new and existing facility equipment focusing on overpressure protection components
Support accurate SAP Master Data of program equipment
Coordinate Management of Change of program equipment
Check and validate vendor equipment sizing, design, and functional applicability, including third-party engineering design calculations
Maintain design and operational information of program equipment and review with P&IDs for accuracy
Evaluate equipment problems and lead root cause failure analysis on failed equipment, develop action plans to eliminate repeat failures, and implement corrective actions
Facilitate project idea evaluations and risk scoring of projects (break/fix, capital, and expense) for program equipment
Maintain program-related expense and capital budgets
Develop and maintain integrity plans, operating procedures, and design standards of program equipment
Facilitate replacement/obsolescence programs for program equipment
Analyze trends and recommend corrective actions for program performance metrics
Ensure facilities are engineered in accordance with regulations and company specifications
Follow and ensure compliance with TC Energy’s Practice of Engineering (POE)
Mentor team members through leadership, motivation, and training
Represent TC Energy in industry technical committees
Minimum Qualifications
Required B.S. (or higher) Degree in Mechanical, Materials, Corrosion Engineering or equivalent. Chemical or Petroleum Engineering degrees with applicable experience will be considered.
Minimum of four (4) years of Mechanical Integrity experience in a natural gas processing, petrochemical, or refining facility
Proficient with asset life cycle management
Experience in developing and maintaining asset management software to monitor fixed equipment performance
Proficient with overpressure protection and control concepts including relief valve sizing and set point determination
Proficient with Management of Change process and the evaluation practices and tools required to successfully complete a change
Proficient with process incident root-cause analyses and addressing corrective actions
Experience with PHA/HAZOP and PSSR processes
