The City of Sandy Springs is seeking a talented illustrator and graphic designer to join its team of creatives. Our Communications Department operates as a full-service marketing and public relations agency working in a variety of mediums including print, video, web and other digital platforms. The Department supports all other departments within the City of Sandy Springs, including the City Manager’s office, Mayor and Council, the City Springs district, the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center, Public Works, Recreation and Parks, Community Development (Building, Code Enforcement and Development), Economic Development, Finance, Police and Fire. With such a varied range of “clients,” the work overseen by the Communications team is wide-ranging and constantly changing. It is a fast-paced environment, requiring attention to detail and flexibility in prioritization.

Role

The Graphic Designer and Multimedia Specialist is tasked with developing clean and professional illustration and design that complements and furthers the City’s brands. Illustration will include small scale projects such as icon development and logo design, as well as large scale projects such as illustrating interpretive signage and creating illustration-based branding systems. Print layout projects will include collateral (brochures, newsletters, flyers, reports etc.), street banners, posters and newspaper/magazine advertisements. Digital design projects will include promotional webpages, social media promotions, digital signage and presentation slides, as well as the digital manipulation and post-production of photography assets.

Required Skills

Excellent illustration and graphic design skills are paramount. Candidates must demonstrate a natural aptitude for illustration and graphic design, as well as technical knowledge. The ability to utilize marketing best practices to create compelling advertisements/promotional materials is essential.

Required Software Skills

• An in-depth knowledge of Adobe Illustrator for illustration is required.
• An in-depth knowledge of Adobe InDesign for layout is required.
• An in-depth knowledge of Adobe Lightroom or Camera RAW for image post processing is required.
• An in-depth knowledge of Adobe Photoshop for image manipulation is required.

Required Professional Skills

• Excellent creative project organizational skills including adhering to best practices in project file management and the ability to follow Sandy Springs file management policies.
• Ability to collaborate with team members in a cloud-based project management platform.
• Ability to determine objectives, manage priorities and produce deliverables within given deadlines.
• Willingness to work in a team environment, including handing off creative work for others to complete and completing creative work that was initiated by others.

Desirable Skills

As a small creative team, we utilize all our members’ extended skill sets. Ongoing skills development is encouraged and supported. The following skills are not required, but are viewed as desirable.

• Photography: Ability to shoot with a DSLR camera beyond its automatic setting in a creative and artistically compelling manner is highly desirable.
• Animation: Ability to create motion graphic animations for video, web and digital signage with proficiency in Adobe After Effects and/or Adobe Animate is desirable.
• Interface Design: Ability to support the development of user interfaces in Adobe XD is desirable.
• Promotional Copy Writing: Ability to write compelling promotional copy is beneficial.
• Videography and Audio: Ability to use a DSLR camera to capture footage for promotional videos, record interviews and B-Roll is beneficial.
• Video Editing: Ability to edit video and audio to create professional short-format videos with proficiency in Adobe Premiere and Adobe Audition is beneficial.

Experience and Qualifications

• Experience working as an illustrator and graphic designer is required. Applicants should submit an online portfolio to demonstrate their ability. There will be a skills assessment during the recruitment process.
• Valid Georgia motor vehicle operator’s license is required.

Commitment

The position is a full time. From time to time, work hours will include evenings and weekends as needed due to meetings and events.
