FinOptimal began in 2015 as a side-hustle of a CFO and Controller who despised manual accounting work. FinOptimal raised venture capital in late 2021 to expand our accounting and technology offerings, and in 2023 launched our flagship app Accruer. The company now operates two distinct business lines: Software and Services. This role is designed primarily to support the Software business line.
Location: Remote (must be located in the continental U.S.), with a preference for Houston where our engineering team is located.
What You'll Do
- Take ownership of full-stack product development and accelerate velocity on product improvements, from front-end UI/UX through backend services.
- Build, refine, and optimize front-end features using modern frameworks (React preferred; Angular or similar acceptable).
- Strengthen backend stability and performance with Python and Django, while also working with SQL databases as needed.
- Troubleshoot and streamline integrations with QuickBooks Online APIs and other third-party systems.
- Collaborate closely with leadership to turn product feedback and roadmap items into functional, reliable software.
- Participate in architecture discussions and assist with monitoring/troubleshooting in GCP Help shape the development culture, processes, and standards to increase autonomy and reduce bottlenecks.
Requirements
- Strong foundation in Python and Django for backend development.
- Proficiency in JavaScript and a modern front-end library/framework (React preferred).
- Solid understanding of relational databases and ability to write/debug SQL.
- Proven track record of shipping meaningful features end-to-end in a SaaS or startup environment.
- Comfort balancing speed and quality. You can iterate quickly but know when precision matters.
- Ability to step into an existing codebase, troubleshoot issues, and deliver value quickly.
- Excellent communication skills; capable of working in a small, collaborative team where context-switching happens.
- Entrepreneurial mindset: comfortable in a lean environment, able to take ownership and figure things out with limited direction.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with pandas for data manipulation in Python.
- Experience working with QuickBooks Online or other accounting/finance systems.
- Exposure to AI-assisted development workflows (e.g., Cursor, Copilot) — with the ability to code without them when necessary.
- Hands-on experience with GCP (Google Cloud Platform) for monitoring, debugging, or troubleshooting.
- An eye for UI/UX. You care about creating intuitive, frictionless experiences for users.
‍Compensation & Benefits:
- $130,000 - $200,000 depending on level of experience
