Duties

• Develop comprehensive lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards, incorporating creative writing, literacy education, and language arts principles
• Deliver engaging lessons that incorporate instructional design, learning technology, and research-based teaching strategies
• Assess student progress through standardized testing, formative assessments, and project-based evaluations
• Provide individualized tutoring and academic advising to support diverse learning needs, including special education and Montessori methods
• Manage classroom behavior effectively while fostering a positive learning environment through classroom management techniques
• Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, instructional strategies, and school-wide initiatives
• Proofread student work for clarity, accuracy, and adherence to style guides such as AP style or the Chicago Manual of Style
• Mentor students in journalism projects or creative writing assignments to enhance their communication skills and confidence

Experience

• Proven classroom experience teaching English at the middle or high school level with a strong understanding of literacy education and language arts instruction
• Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development, lesson planning, and instructional design tailored to diverse student populations
• Experience working with students in private school settings or special education environments is highly desirable
• Familiarity with standardized testing procedures, research methods, and library services for educational purposes
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple classes, assessments, and extracurricular activities effectively
• Knowledge of working with learning technology platforms and digital tools to enhance instruction
• Background in journalism, creative writing, linguistics, or higher education teaching is advantageous
