The Data Center Engineer (DC) role is responsible for leading and monitoring Flagstar’s physical data centers enterprise wide. This includes monitoring power distribution, coordinating generator/UPS/Fire Suppression/HVAC etc. maintenance. The Data Center Engineer is also responsible for coordinating all contract work for the data centers including any low voltage cabling in the datacenter, etc. Responsible for keeping detailed diagrams for the DCs and provide reports on maintenance, power usage, cost etc.
Job Responsibilities:
- Under management’s guidance, maintain all maintenance activities for Data Centers, back office Individual Distribution Frame (IDF) closets Monitor electrical usage, HVAC usage, maintenance cost etc. in order to develop a DC operation cost model. Lead the activity with IT teams for all activity in the data center, such as adds, changes, removals and maintenance of equipment in the DC. Assure that all procedures and policies are followed. Assure all IT teams are aware of activities going on in the data centers.
- Work with Network and Storage teams for the Low Voltage Infrastructure to deliver network drops and/or other low voltage projects.
- Provide detailed documentation for all DCs, IDFs, and including but not limited to detailed rack diagrams assuring these documents are always kept up to date.
- Monitor and resolve any DC related support tickets
- Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Completes all required compliance training. Maintains knowledge of and adhere to Flagstar’s internal compliance policies and procedures. Takes responsibility to keep up to date with changing regulations and policies.
Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma, GED, or foreign equivalent required.
- Bachelor's Degree or comparable work experience required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science preferred.
- 5+ years of information technology experience and/or IT security.
- 4 + years datacenter experience understanding hardware components and specifications.
- 1+ years of vendor interaction.
- Ability to use Visio to maintain detailed data center documentation.
- Ability to use Excel for developing reports / maintaining inventory.
- Ability to use PowerPoint to develop presentation.
- Strong knowledge of the types of power connectors used in data centers, network fiber types and where/when to use.
- Ability to pull short runs for ethernet and fiber low voltage cables.
- Ability to use ethernet and fiber test equipment.
- Strong knowledge of DC architecture best practices.
- Coordinate placement of equipment in DC considering size, current power loads, cooling loads etc.
- Knowledge of DCIM tools or similar software.
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects across internal and external resource.
