Madison College , located in beautiful Madison, Wisconsin, is seeking a Communications and Social Media Specialist to help share the value and impact of the college’s Professional & Continuing Education programs. As part of the School of Professional & Continuing Education, this position plays an important role in connecting individuals and organizations with learning opportunities through thoughtful storytelling, engaging digital content, and strategic communications.
The Communications and Social Media Specialist will develop and manage content across multiple platforms, including websites, social media, email marketing, and digital communications, while ensuring consistency with institutional branding and user experience standards. This position combines creativity, technical expertise, and strategic thinking to produce compelling written and visual content, manage communication tools, analyze engagement data, and collaborate with internal partners to strengthen awareness and engagement with Professional & Continuing Education offerings.

Position Details:

Schedule: This is a full-time, exempt position scheduled for 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year. Typical office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional evening and weekend hours as needed. The position offers flexibility in establishing core work hours to support business needs and work-life balance. This role requires three days per week on campus, with the opportunity to work remotely on the remaining workdays. Remote work arrangements are subject to change in accordance with Madison College policies.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Oversee communication and marketing platforms by managing functionality, maintaining distribution lists, supporting website content maintenance and collaborating with internal stakeholders to optimize system performance and audience engagement.
- Supports marketing and communication efforts by coordinating content development and maintaining brand consistency across digital and print platforms.
- Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to generate and execute compelling social media content that strengthens storytelling and audience engagement.
- Supports strategic communications by advising teams on social media strategy, content development and audience engagement.
- Creates and manages content across written, video and digital formats to promote programs, events and initiatives.
- Partners on marketing and communications efforts by collaborating with stakeholders on content requests and development, determining distribution and ensuring effective digital delivery.
- Assists with high-priority projects by supporting department leadership and program staff in developing and executing key messaging strategies.
- Contributes to an inclusive, equitable and supportive environment where everyone at the institution feels valued, respected and empowered to reach their full potential.
- Adheres to college policies, directives and work rules while maintaining a commitment to the college’s mission, vision and values.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of communication best practices, content strategy and audience segmentation.
- Knowledge of social media platforms, trends and analytics.
- Knowledge of communications software.
- Skill in photography and video capture using phone or college-provided equipment, with the ability to support content needs across platforms and events.
- Skill in data analysis and interpretation.
- Skill in writing, editing and tailoring content for various audiences.
- Ability to develop and execute creative storytelling strategies across written, video and digital formats.
- Skill in engaging positively with all populations and communities, contributing to a safe and inclusive learning and work environment.
- Skill in effectively and respectfully communicating with others.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required. An associate’s degree may be considered with equivalent additional relevant work experience.
Experience:
- 1-3+ years of relevant professional work experience.
