Please note: This position has the possibility to work remotely up to 100% of the time. The position will require occasional travel to the Phoenix corporate offices and/or site locations . This position may be performed anywhere in the U.S. except California, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Michigan, Illinois, Kentucky and New York. Additional states may be excluded from remote work based on business factors. Should the positions shift to in-office work in the future, the company will offer relocation benefits at that time should the position meet the established eligibility for these benefits.

Description

Lead and oversee all aspects of the design, execution, and troubleshooting of solution management and pumping related projects within the company. Provide technical guidance, troubleshoot problems and collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize hydraulic system performance with the leach operations and projects to ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
 

  • Develop conceptual and detailed designs for storage, pumping and piping systems, including selecting appropriate equipment, materials and configurations to meet project requirements
  • Lead and oversee projects related to solution management pumping and piping system through coordination with internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, technicians, contractors and suppliers to ensure successful project execution
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to project teams, resolving technical issues and ensuring adherence to project timelines and specifications. Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to fluid dynamics, pressure control, pump selection, pipeline integrity and flow measurement
  • Perform hydraulic calculations, pressure drop analysis and flow rate calculations to ensure system efficiency, reliability and safety.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to existing pumping and piping systems to enhance performance, energy efficiency and cost effectiveness
  • Conduct performance assessments and optimization studies of existing pumping and piping systems to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks and areas for improvement
  • Implement and monitor performance indicators, metrics and maintenance programs to ensure the reliability and longevity of pumping and piping systems
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry codes, standards, regulations and safety guidelines (e.g. ASME, API, ISO) in the design, installation, operation and maintenance of pumping and piping systems
  • Prepare technical specifications, engineering drawings and documentation for pumping and piping systems, ensuring accuracy, completeness and adherence to relevant standards
  • Collaborate with other departments such as procurement, operations and maintenance to provide technical support, training and guide on pumping and piping system related matters
  • Generate technical reports, feasibility studies and cost analysis to support decision making processes and communicate project status and outcomes to stakeholders
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement appropriate mitigation measure to prevent accidents, leaks or system failures
  • Performs other duties as required.
     

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

This position requires international air travel. In accordance with Freeport-McMoRan’s requirement for all employees whose job requires international travel, if you are hired you will be required to submit proof that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to travel by air internationally, unless the company has granted a medical or religious accommodation.
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline and seven (7) years of experience in related engineering field OR
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline and five (5) years of experience in related engineering field
  • Demonstrated experience in designing, operating and maintaining solution management, pumping and piping systems
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or equivalent relevant certification
  • Broad knowledge in the principles and practices of mechanical engineering
  • In depth knowledge of fluid mechanics, hydraulic systems and pump performance characteristics
  • Strong understanding of piping design principles, material selection and pipe stress analysis
  • Familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards such as ASME B31.3, API 610, API 571, etc
  • Analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and optimize complex systems
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey technical information effectively to diverse audiences
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross function teams and lead technical projects
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety
     

Preferred Qualifications:
 

  • Mechanical engineering experience in a copper leaching industry
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent relevant certification

  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.

Compensation:

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $108,000-$152,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional incentive compensation considerations based on company and individual performance. Additionally, this position is currently eligible for annual long-term incentive consideration. Long-term incentives are contingent upon authorized approval under the terms and conditions of the Company's plan and award agreements. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
