A Family Support Specialist helps families of individuals with disabilities by educating, connecting, and empowering families in various ways; Providing ongoing support to meet the needs of a family as appropriate. This includes support and information to families and professionals with concerns about a specific disability, special education, behavior, or community resources. Information and resources provided is individualized based on needs and is provided via phone, email, or in person.

It is essential that the candidate be able to work well with people, be a good listener, have comprehensive knowledge of special education and community-based services, and be able to effectively collaborate with schools and organizations throughout WNY. It is preferred that the candidate be the parent of an individual with special needs or be the primary recipient of services themselves.

Salary Range – $37,000 – $42,000
