About The Role


GSI Environmental Inc. is seeking a highly innovative and technically skilled AI Engineer to join our expanding team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying AI-powered applications, automation workflows, dashboards, and data-driven tools that enhance operational efficiency and decision-making processes across the organization. You will collaborate closely with project teams, IT, and executive leadership to identify opportunities where emerging AI and automation technologies can simplify workflows, eliminate manual tasks, and provide actionable insights. This role offers a unique opportunity to build a new AI function from the ground up, shaping the future of how GSI leverages technology to deliver environmental solutions. The ideal candidate will have a passion for innovation, a strong foundation in software development, and experience with modern AI platforms and tools, including large language models and machine learning frameworks. This position is preferably based at or near one of GSI’s offices, with flexible hybrid or remote arrangements considered for highly qualified candidates.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Proven ability to develop software applications, automation tools, business intelligence solutions, or AI-enabled technologies
  • Hands-on experience with Generative AI, large language models (LLMs), AI agents, or machine learning technologies
  • Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, JavaScript, C#, or similar languages
  • Experience building dashboards and analytics with PowerBI, Tableau, or comparable platforms
  • Experience integrating systems via APIs, databases, and cloud technologies
  • Solid understanding of data architecture, security, governance, and best practices in software development
  • Ability to translate complex business problems into practical technological solutions
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Platform (PowerApps, PowerAutomate, PowerBI) or similar low-code tools (preferred)
  • Experience developing LLM/RAG applications, document automation, or AI assistants for knowledge work (preferred)
  • A passion for continuous learning and staying current with rapidly evolving AI technologies

Responsibilities


  • Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered applications, assistants, and workflows that address real business challenges
  • Create custom internal software, portals, and applications to improve operational efficiency
  • Evaluate emerging AI platforms, large language models, and automation technologies; rapidly prototype high-value use cases
  • Build dashboards and business intelligence tools that provide actionable insights to leadership and project teams
  • Integrate business and technical systems through APIs, databases, and cloud services to ensure seamless data flow
  • Support data management, reporting, and analytics initiatives, including scientific, financial, and regulatory data
  • Create automated workflows to streamline business processes and reduce manual effort
  • Train and support staff in adopting new AI tools, fostering a culture of responsible AI use
  • Develop AI governance standards and best practices to ensure secure, ethical, and compliant use of AI technologies
  • Partner with IT and leadership to establish a strategic technology and innovation roadmap for the organization
