Job Description Professional writer with natural curiosity capable of pushing the envelope to deliver on a range of writing, including engaging consumers in compelling web content for promotion in native advertising; paid search and social; and e-mail lead nurturing campaigns; striking an emotional chord through heartwarming and inspiring patient stories to drive fundraising, as well as writing more basic copy for marketing and promotional materials such as brochures, fliers and mailers.

This role will successfully concept and develop Google-optimized digital content for multiple audiences in the form of consumer parent resources web content, e-communications lead nurturing content, paid search and native advertising headlines and content. Also maintains accuracy and consistency of brand editorial standards across all external communications.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in writing, digital content development, journalism or public relations
  • Strong understanding of SEO and organic search
  • Working knowledge of consumer engagement marketing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with consumer digital content strategy and development
  • Hospital and healthcare-related audiences and topics a plus, but not required

Education
Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or related field

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent writing and editing skills with a focus on engaging consumers via parenting advice, tips and resources
  • Thorough knowledge of AP style
  • Top-notch proofreading skills including correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation, as well as accuracy and consistency
  • Must have strong analytical skills and creative experience necessary to address targeted messages to a variety of audiences in different formats
  • Demonstrated skill in creating content and initiating projects from a creative brief; and ensuring content aligns with the key takeaways and audiences from the brief.
  • Demonstrated skill in interviewing and selection of rock-star-quality subject matter experts for compelling web articles, videos, patient stories, etc.
  • Development of compelling questions for interviews, gathering information from sources at all levels in the system (varying levels of staff, physicians, donors, and patient families)
  • Able to work well under pressure and manage multiple projects at once
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to unexpected changes, including identifying consumer-driven trends, seasonality and current events and bringing those topics to content strategy sessions as story or web content ideas
  • Proven ability to develop and meet/exceed editorial schedules/deadlines

Job Responsibilities
1. Concepts and develops digital content for multiple audiences for omni-channel distribution in support of full-funnel marketing tactics including consumer parent resources web content, e-communications lead nurturing content, paid search and native advertising headlines and content. Ensures that language and messages are appropriate for audience, reflective of institutional mission, vision, and image campaign, and adhere to editorial style guidelines.
2. Works with others in the department and project initiators to understand the goal of the project, including the needs of the target audience, in order to develop appropriate messages.
3. Enhances results through proper integration and alignment with other marketing and communications teams.
4. Ensures all content is optimized for search, including staying on top of changes in Google algorithms on an ongoing basis.
5. Supports Content Manager in updating the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Editorial Style Guide on an annual basis.
6. Maintains awareness of and proficiency in current trends and practices in writing for marketing communications, digital content marketing and consumer engagement
7. Maintains skill levels in technology tools required to perform job requirements.
