Job Description:

The Open Society University Network (OSUN) is a global network of forty-five higher education institutions, co-founded and co-led by Bard College, that integrates learning and the advancement of knowledge across geographic and demographic boundaries, promotes civic engagement on behalf of open societies, and expands access of underserved communities to higher education.

OSUN at Bard College seeks a well-rounded web professional with hands-on experience building webpages, managing complex websites, and producing relevant content that enhances the user experience and speaks to OSUN’s mission. A successful candidate will work as part of a team to support a mobile-first, accessible, and standards-compliant website for OSUN, as well as maintain and improve OSUN’s web presence. A successful candidate will have a deep knowledge of web best practices including responsive design, information architecture, user experience, interactive design, analytics, SEO, web optimization, versioning, and web accessibility. We are seeking an individual with a combination of technical experience, excellent written communication skills, and a strong team ethic.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with all members of the OSUN communications team, educational technology working group, and web services group.
  • Work within a CMS-driven environment to create, update, and expand web content.
  • Effectively employ information architecture to enhance and simplify the user experience.
  • Liaise with faculty and staff responsible for program content.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the internal stakeholders and external audience.
  • Follow established web-team coding standards and branding and style guides.
  • Anticipate issues from internal/external constituents and assist in generating solutions.
  • Utilize web analytics and performance data to implement improvements to the sites.
  • Research, test, and implement web-based applications.
  • Research a cloud-based hosting solution for future iterations of the OSUN website.

Requirements

  • Understanding of and commitment to OSUN’s vision, mission, and values.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in digital media, design, or related field.
  • 3+ years relevant web production experience.
  • Self-motivated web developer and content manager with a desire to stay current on new technologies.
  • A highly organized and detail-oriented self-starter with a track record of handling multiple projects with rapid turnaround.
  • Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of HTML and ability to hand-code.
  • Expertise in creating and applying custom CSS (SASS and Flexbox a plus).
  • Experience updating websites utilizing a web content management system.
  • Working knowledge of Photoshop or digital graphic-art production.
  • Understanding of website best practices, SEO techniques, and WCAG 2.0 AA guidelines.
