he University of Alaska (UAF) Interior Alaska Campus is located in Fairbanks, Alaska but primarily serves rural areas in the Interior Region. IAC provides lifelong educational opportunities for people in rural Alaskan and Alaska Native communities that honors and integrates their cultures and ways of life. IAC actively partners with community members, including elders, tribal representatives, advocates and others, in order to provide relevant education that meets the needs and expectations of those served. IAC is committed to place-based education that provides students with higher education opportunities without leaving their communities. IAC is respectful of rural priorities and Native cultures; classes are coordinated around subsistence activities and community events.

This position will be expected to develop and teach courses in Human Services at the Associates level

The HUMS courses are offered at the community level.  Faculty will be expected to use a blended delivery model that combines online and/or audio distance courses with face-to-face intensives in villages and sometimes Fairbanks. Faculty will be expected to work with community members to incorporate community needs and cultural values into course delivery materials and methods.

The Interior Alaska Campus is located in Fairbanks and this position can be hired in a 0% geographic differential location (Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, Girdwood, Chugiak, Eagle River, Kenai, Soldotna, Homer, Ketchikan, Palmer, Wasilla, Seward, Sitka, Angoon) or Bethel (38% geographic differential location). The HUMS faculty will be expected to travel to rural villages as needed; travel to rural areas is commonly by small commuter plane and many villages have limited commercial enterprises for lodging, meals, and other services.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Experience working with private and public external constituencies
Ability to advocate for the university
Ability to acquire funding from external sources.
General background in the behavioral health field
Typical Experience:
Experience teaching in the field and/or equivalent combination of experience in the field. Strong communication and collaborative skills. Experience working with public and private constituencies. Experience designing online or hybrid courses.
Required Education or Training:

Bachelors in the human services field (psychology, human services, social work, counseling).
Masters of Social Work (MSW) preferred

Salary Information:

This is a full-time, 9-month, term, faculty position complete with both a competitive salary, DOE, and full employee benefits package
