The Senior/Staff Web Developer is responsible for ECL’s main website helps introduce the cloud laboratory to the world and supports our user community of scientists to transcend the lab. Current features include our web help files with 100+ scientific experiments at the user’s fingertips and our customization flows to find the ideal cloud lab experience for our users. ECL is looking for senior, staff, or principal software engineers to build leading-edge web experiences and set the foundation for scalable and delightful software for our cloud lab community. We’re a small team, which means it is essential for every team member to be ready to take ownership and lead projects. Feature development and proximity to overall UX are both central in this role, so the Web Engineer works very closely alongside the outstanding ECL Design team. 

As an early team member helping to build the Engineering team as well as the product, you will also be encouraged to contribute to the software engineering practices we maintain in our work, and which we bring to ECL as a whole. We strive to be continually critical of our process, cutting cruft and homing in on performance multipliers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in website development.
• BS and/or graduate degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
• Proficiency in JavaScript and/or TypeScript

Preferred Qualifications

• You are familiar with React and GatsbyJS or equivalent frameworks.
• You have experience with web 3D rendering and/or complex web rendering technologies.
• You have experience with website testing frameworks (Cypress, Percy, Storybook, Chromatic, etc.)
• You have experience with CDN, SEO, and Google Analytics.
• You have experience leading a small team.
• You have great attention to detail and strive to deliver beautiful and friendly user interactions.
