The National Multiple Sclerosis Society mobilizes people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS. To fulfill this mission, the Society funds cutting-edge research, drives change through advocacy, facilitates professional education, collaborates with MS organizations around the world, and provides programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families move their lives forward. We partner with volunteers to accomplish our work. Essential Functions / Responsibility
Write and edit compelling content — including emails, web pages, event materials, in-app content, SMS, infographics, video scripts, strategic content and more — to support event registration, fundraising, awareness, engagement, web traffic and more - 70%
- Draft, rewrite, edit and proofread content for a broad range of channels in alignment with the Society’s brand, language and style guidelines and specific messaging developed for events and programs.
- Write and optimize email content within large-scale campaigns to drive event registration and revenue.
- Review and update content to ensure it is accurate, high quality, relevant, impactful and readable depending on channels, audiences and goals.
- Write content such as rack cards, posters, postcards and other print collateral.
Collaborate with leaders in Constituent Experience, Development and other departments to create content for assigned programs and initiatives - 30%
- Support the development of content calendars and strategic content packages.
- Pitch creative ideas and innovative content formats to diversify content offerings and engage audiences in new ways.
- Identify sources, perform interviews and write stories.
- Write content that directly addresses the unique challenges, questions and aspirations of our audiences and ensure content provides practical, insightful and actionable information.
- Support fact-checking in news and research articles and blog posts.
- Partner with other content creators — such as multimedia specialists, social media managers, digital/web production managers and creative design specialists — to develop assets and execute marketing campaigns.
- Adapt complex medical terminology for key audiences.

Role Qualifications
- 3+ years' experience in content development, content marketing, copywriting and/or editing
- Portfolio of relevant work, including web content, emails, longform and shortform content, etc.
- Demonstrated experience as a proficient writer for a broad range of channels
- Strong understanding of digital content strategy and execution (web, email, SMS, etc.)
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to organize and synthesize complex data and information
- Strong skills in time management, organization, planning and prioritization
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally to prioritize tasks, manage strategic work and produce high-quality content on deadline
- Resourceful in solving problems and overcoming barriers or challenges
- Self-starter who is collaborative and effective at influencing others to meet deadlines
- Growth mindset
- Experience in the health and human services and/or peer-to-peer fundraising is helpful, but not required
Technical Competencies
- Demonstrated expertise in writing, editing and storytelling in digital and print channels (web, email, marketing collateral, direct mail, app, blog, SMS/text message, etc.)
- Experienced in managing multiple components within stories (multimedia, infographics, etc.), selecting photos and pull quotes, drafting sidebars and identifying the need for graphic elements that enhance content
- Understanding of how to refresh news and content to reengage audiences
- Foundational understanding of search engine optimization (SEO) techniques
- Ability to quickly learn new software/tools and how they could be leveraged within your work
- Contribute to a team while completing work independently
- Familiarity with content management systems and project management systems such as Asana
- Proficient in AP style
- Experience creating multimedia content and/or Spanish content is a plus, but not required
Compensation and Benefits Info
Estimated hiring compensation range for this role is $48,000 – $60,000. Final offers are based on candidate geographic location and will take into consideration candidate’s career experience. Final offers may vary from this range due to these and other factors.
