Ship Clerks play a crucial role in the Middle Mile network and are responsible for delivering our mission is to be Earth's most customer-centric company. Ship Clerks are responsible for daily management of department duties including planning loads around standard departure times, load flow control and ensuring proper trailer utilization. Ship Clerks can assign job duties, provide work direction and communicate with internal and external partners.
Ship Clerks will drive and execute standard work in areas impacting Safety, Quality, Productivity, Utilization, and On-time Performance. They will help support daily management of department duties including Load planning, Load Flow Control, Load Quality, TDR, Communicating to Upstream and Downstream Partners, Allocating Labor, Leading Meetings, and Assigning job Duties. Ship Clerks will escalate any barriers to their Operations Leaders and work with them to mitigate issues impacting safety and performance
Job Description:
• Perform pick and pack functions as required.
• Correspond with multiple shipping companies and their contacts
• Use multiple shipping companies software to ship and track packages
• Pack/re-pack and ship customer orders
• Coordinate trailers to corresponding dock doors and cross docks using the OMA (Outbound Manifest Accuracy) tool
• Troubleshoot shipping problems and errors to resolution
• Communicate well with fellow employees and coordinate activities according to needs
• Comprehensive understanding of shipping requirements, rules and obligations by carrier, destination and package type
• Ensure that all safety measures and precautions are in place and being used regarding the docks and trailers
Qualifications
• Must be certified or willing to be certified in all PIT including walkie-rider, reach truck, etc.
• Must be able to communicate well with peers, managers and outside carriers
• Must be well organized and detailed oriented with the ability to multi-task
• Must be accurate, reliable and understand the importance of deadlines
• Must be able to work as required to satisfy deadline
• Must be able to be proactive and work well with others
• Strong verbal and written communication skills are a must
• Need to know or be able to learn the Shipping process
• Need to know or be able to learn OMA and carrier provided shipping tools
• Must be flexible for daily overtime and varying schedules as needed
Physical Demands
• Standing and/or walking during a minimum 10 hour shift
• Some lifting and moving of packages, most weighing 35 lbs or less
• Walking in the FC and around area with great frequency
• Manual dexterity in hands and wrist
• Regular bending, lifting, stretching and reaching both below the waist and above the head
Work Environment
• Will be working with and around moving mechanical parts
• The temperature in the warehouse varies between 60 and 95 degrees and will occasionally exceed 95 degrees
• The pace in the shipping department is fast and can be hectic
