The ideal candidate will have a broad tolling and/or ITS technology background, with experience in limited access roadway and/or tolling facility projects. Willingness to be a team player is a must.

How will you contribute to the team?
Serves as GEC Toll Facility Design Specialist for the client’s Tolls Design Group and will provide technical engineering and design support for tolling projects, including but not limited to the design and development of tolling concepts and alternatives.
Serves as an extension of client staff, working daily with the agency’s offices.
Supports the Turnpike Toll Site Design Administrator and Turnpike Design Engineer and works closely with the Turnpike Toll Operations Department.
Provides tolls engineering support to the Department and Consultants in areas of toll facility plans, analysis, and design.
Reviews toll site/facility plan submittals and associated shop drawings and can coordinate with multiple disciplines, such as, Signing and Pavement Marking, Structures, Roadway, ITS, Construction and Operations.
Identifies and solves complex toll facility design challenges in a timely manner.
Reviews Toll Facility plan submittals, to include civil site, architectural, and electrical plan submittals, to meet FDOT General Tolling Requirements (GTR) and project requirements. Plans, specifications and calculations will be reviewed to assure GTR criteria is followed.
Records review comments in Electronic Review Comments system, (ERC), and confirms compliance to comments with responses and subsequent submittals.
Advises the Tolls Design Administrator of current and forecasted workload, review issues, and developing trends in submittals.
Provides post-design construction support including review of plans revisions, responses to contractor’s request for information, and shop drawings.
Reviews contractor-initiated submittals (RFIs, RFCs, shop drawings, remedials, etc.) and coordinates with construction personnel as necessary.
Collaborates with both the Turnpike client and other consultants to create, review, and publish updates to the General Tolling Requirements (GTR) document, used statewide for all Turnpike and FDOT District tolling projects.
Assists the Project Manager with the development of scopes of services, units, and staff-hour estimates for work on Consultant tolls design projects; assists in the negotiation of staff-hours and units for Consultant tolls design projects, when necessary; assists with the development of Requests for Proposals (RFP) for non-conventional bid projects; communicates technical information effectively to the Department and Consultants.
Assists client with evaluation of consultant performance.
Attends project meetings, field reviews, and other project-related functions and debriefs others (Tolls Design Administrator, GC Design Manager, DDE, etc.) as
necessary.
Performs occasional field work to collect site specific data as projects require.
Performs such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.
What will you contribute?
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or related technical field. M.S. or graduate level technical coursework preferred.
This position requires minimum of six (6) years relevant engineering experience since B.S. and four (4) years of FDOT design experience.
Relevant work experience would provide exposure to general civil/site or roadway engineering, toll infrastructure, toll operations, information and communication technologies, and/or intelligent transportation systems (ITS), including fiber-optic communication design, video systems, computer hardware & software, toll collection systems and sub-systems, electronic payment, or traffic management.
Experience with toll facility/limited access projects is a plus.
Understanding of the FDOT project design processes to support the Department with development and implementation of pay items, basis of estimates, modified special provisions, and standard plans associated with toll facilities.
Knowledge of FDOT plans production process and experience with FDOT Electronic Review Comment (ERC) system.
Knowledge of FTE General Tolling Requirements (GTR) is a plus.
General Engineering Consultant (GEC) experience is a plus.
The ability to technically review toll facility plans and other tolling documents for compliance with the GTR and associated FDOT requirements.
Strong, effective technical writing, oral and listening communication skills in English; good public speaking ability to large groups of people.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skill.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Proficient in Microsoft personal computer applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project; working knowledge of SharePoint and other project management / production support systems.
Professional Engineer Registration in the State of Florida required, or if registered in another state, the ability to obtain registration in the State of Florida within six months of assuming this position.
PMP certification is desirable.
