Job Description:

I am sourcing candidates for a Senior PHP/WordPress Developer with strong backend expertise and some frontend experience. The focus is on extending WordPress Multisite as a CMS, working within a PHP 8 codebase, and integrating with various third-party APIs.

Core Responsibilities:

Backend Development:

  • Work extensively with PHP 8 and WordPress Multisite, customizing and extending functionality using OOP principles and design patterns.
  • Implement RESTful APIs and integrate third-party services.
  • Manage PHP dependencies with Composer.
  • Ensure web security best practices are followed.
  • Frontend Development (Less of a Focus but Still Important):
  • Use TypeScript, React, jQuery, and Vue.js as needed.
  • Build and maintain UI components, though the primary focus remains on backend work.

Collaboration & Development Process:

  • Work closely with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to define, develop, and refine features.
  • Review and provide feedback on GitHub pull requests.
  • Guide projects from scoping to production deployment.
  • Participate in unit and integration testing to ensure code quality.

DevOps & Infrastructure:

  • Work with AWS (Lambda, SQS) to enhance functionality.
  • Possibly contribute to a PHP monorepo environment (monorepo-builder).

Learning & Innovation:

  • Keep up with new technologies and suggest improvements.
  • Leverage generative AI tools for development efficiency.

Must-Haves (What Makes a Strong Candidate):

  • Proven experience as a senior developer specializing in PHP and WordPress.
  • Strong grasp of WordPress’s pub/sub model, hooks, and filters.
  • Experience with Git and GitHub workflows for version control.
  • Familiarity with automated testing.
  • Strong written communication skills (likely for documentation, async collaboration, or remote work).

Nice-to-Haves (Bonus Skills):

  • Degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Experience with Next.js.
  • Familiarity with WP Engine hosting.
  • Prior work in large PHP monorepos.
  • Experience maintaining legacy codebases.
