We are hiring a Sr. Director, Business Accounting Operations, reporting to the Senior Vice President, Executive/Business Operations in our SouthWest (SW) region. In this role, you’ll be responsible for working with leadership and field staff to ensure financial business processes and operations are in alignment with federal and national standards within the six-state region. Work to maintain high fiscal integrity for the region by training staff on policies and procedures, leading internal financial processes and practices. This position will be a partner to the SW leadership team, and field fundraising and mission staff on all issues related to finance to ensure they are able to successfully impact the mission of the organization.
This is a remote position with a location preference within the borders of the SouthWest region states, but not required. The SouthWest region includes six states – Arkansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wyoming.

Responsibilities
Some of the responsibilities include:
- Monitoring the region’s finances, ensuring expenses are submitted in a timely manner and properly coded. Conduct periodic compliance reviews of regional revenue and expenditures. Take necessary steps to resolve questionable transactions. Manage day-to-day relationship with centralized finance staff including review of monthly financial statements. Prepare return on investment and other financial analyses for SVP Corporate Ops and EVP.
- Manage the region’s fundraiser incentive program by preparing and maintaining fundraising staff goals. Prepare all incentive calculations and ensure the proper data is submitted for timely payout. Educate staff on how incentives are calculated and respond to related inquiries. Keep leadership abreast of any issues and provide recommendations.
- Work with regional managers and Sr. Management to create and review monthly departmental budgets. Work with Business Technology (BT), Business Operations and HR to create and review those departmental budgets. Advise regional staff on general ledger codes. Meet with BT and Sr. Director Facilities monthly to review their budget status.
- Review fundraising proposals and donor agreements in Proposal Pro workflow tool and provide feedback to ensure documents are following organizational standards before being released to third parties.
- Create and implement corporate operations/finance/facilities training modules and materials with an initial emphasis on training for new administrative assistants, new home office staff and new managers or participate in the creation of and conduct of these trainings for all regions.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- 2-5 years successful experience in non-profit accounting, finance or similar experience.
- Proven strength building and leveraging relationships at all levels both internally and externally.
- Effective oral and written communication skills with experience presenting to groups.
- Solid understanding of how to engage and work with staff of all levels within an organization.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build and lead project teams.
- Ability to work well with diverse groups of people around the organization, including senior executives.
- Ability to present ideas and concepts live or via multimedia in a clear and compelling manner.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
Compensation & Benefits
The expected pay range will be $62,500 to $83,400. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials to the pay range may apply. The American Heart Association reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range.
