The Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Project Manager will oversee the daily operations of Company projects and manage field staff while ensuring company goals and objectives are met.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Oversee a team of project crew members and provide direction for optimal performance and deliverables.
- Ensure effective communications with assigned employees and maintain positive company morale.
- Assist in hiring qualified individuals for open positions and with onboarding direct reports.
- Train staff on Lexis position-specific procedures and aid in ongoing training, mentoring, and coaching.
- Other supervisory duties as assigned.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Lead multi-state SUE projects and their operations across an array of industries and fields such as transportation, utilities, land development, medical and education campuses, etc.
- Coordinate with clients throughout the full project lifecycle which includes scheduling meetings, writing proposals, project coordination and scheduling, deliverable reviews, follow-ups and more.
- Facilitate communication among clients/customers and Lexis employees to ensure specifications, budgets, and deadlines are clearly communicated, understood, and met.
- Perform quality control, records research, and field crew coordination.
- Supervise office and field staff to ensure thorough work production and quality deliverables.
- Provide on-site support to troubleshoot complex projects or staffing needs.
- Adhere to and enforce company safety policies and procedures and assist in training employees.
- Work collaboratively with human resources and principals in the creation of policies and procedures related to specific areas of employee core competencies.
- Assist in the development of company-wide or crew training events as well as participate in Lexis approved conferences and professional society events.
- Track key performance metrics and help execute improvement measures.
- Provide process improvement suggestions and assist in implementation of new procedures and technologies.
- Review and approve employee timesheet and expense reports.
- Perform annual staff performance reviews for direct reports.
- Aid in expanding our existing client base and geographic footprint.
- Conduct all other duties as assigned.

- Familiarity with computer-aided drafting (CAD) software and/or others of the like.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to pass criminal background and drug screens.
- Ability to travel as needed, which accounts for roughly 20% of the position, but may vary from time to time.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, small business environment.
- Ability to obtain a Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Examiners Certificate to operate Company equipment up to 26,000 pounds is preferred.
Education and Experience:
- Candidate should have some level of formal education, training, and/or equivalent work experience in civil engineering, geophysics, subsurface utility engineering, and/or land surveying.
- Candidate should have experience leading a team with a successful track record.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to remain seated or standing for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to sustain prolonged periods of work in front of screens such as computers, monitors, and other devices.
- Ability to lift or carry 50+ pounds as needed.
- Ability to push and pull heavy equipment that may exceed 30+ pounds, as needed.
