Operational Excellence Specialist Position Overview:
The Director of Operational Excellence will design, deliver, and oversee training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of team members across the landscape division. This role involves collaborating with various departments to assess training needs, developing curriculum, and ensuring that training initiatives align with the company's goals and objectives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in training and development, excellent communication skills, and the ability to engage and inspire participants.
Operational Excellence Specialist Responsibilities:
Training Program Development:
- Design and develop training programs and materials to increase horticultural knowledge for stakeholders throughout the organization. Including but not limited to the following areas/topics: Landscape Design, Enhancement Estimation and Production Techniques, Obtaining Industry Certifications, etc.
- Update and enhance existing training programs to ensure they remain current and effective.
- Customize training programs to address specific business needs and objectives.
Training Delivery:
- Conduct training sessions in person and virtually, using a variety of instructional techniques to increase team members’ abilities specific to their roles and/or prepare them to obtain state/regional/national industry specific certifications.
- Facilitate group workshops and one-on-one coaching sessions.
- Monitor and assess the effectiveness of training programs through evaluations, feedback, and performance metrics.
Needs Assessment:
- Collaborate with leadership to identify training needs and skill gaps within the organization.
- In coordination with divisional leadership and the finance team analyze data and recommend solutions to improve team member performance and productivity.
Continuous Improvement:
- Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and new technologies.
- Assist in implementation of new processes with expected improvements to operational performance.
- Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to maintain and improve industry specific skills.
Administration, reporting, and miscellaneous tasks:
- Maintain training records, including attendance, progress, and outcomes.
- Prepare and distribute reports on training activities, including ROI and effectiveness.
- Coordinate logistics for training sessions, including scheduling, venue arrangements, and materials.
- Assist with the design, estimation, and proposal of landscape enhancement projects as we build the capabilities of the broader team.
Operational Excellence Specialist Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Horticultural Sciences or a related field preferred
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the commercial landscape service industry fulfilling a leadership and/or a critical support role
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Certification(s) from a recognized state or national landscape association required (example: FNGLA for the state of Florida).
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
