Job Description:

Muvik Labs is an evidence-based digital therapy provider. We build software to help people manage stress, sharpen focus, and improve sleep. Our audio-driven solution provides personalized breathing interventions, using music and biofeedback to guide users toward better health.

Role Description
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with strong full-stack web development skills to take over the management of our web application. This role requires a high degree of autonomy and self-direction, as you will be responsible for the entire web development lifecycle. You’ll manage the current platform, built using Directus and AWS infrastructure, but will eventually lead the transition to a more custom-built backend solution as Muvik Labs evolves.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable driving technical decisions, planning workload independently, and leading the development of new features. You'll play a key role in optimizing the web app's performance, integrating biofeedback systems, and ensuring scalability and HIPAA compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and self-manage web development: Own the full-stack development of Muvik Labs’ web application, from front-end (React) to backend (Directus, Node.js, PostgreSQL).
  • Transition from Directus: While Directus is our temporary solution, you will lead the development of a more custom backend that scales with our needs and moves us off Directus.
  • Ensure HIPAA compliance and security standards across all web systems, with a focus on encryption and secure data handling.
  • Develop and integrate biofeedback systems: Implement sensor data processing, HRV measurements, and real-time feedback loops for users.
  • Optimize performance and scalability: Implement caching strategies, improve code efficiency, and manage AWS-hosted services.
  • Manage deployments and setup CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions for AWS infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and maintain the stability and performance of both front-end and backend systems.
  • Write clean, maintainable code and ensure the web app is scalable, secure, and well-documented.
  • Lead the architectural transition from Directus to a custom backend, ensuring smooth migration with minimal disruption.
  • Drive technical decisions independently, proactively identifying and solving challenges without close oversight.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in full-stack web development (React, Node.js, PostgreSQL).
  • Experience managing AWS infrastructure, including EC2, S3, CloudFront, and Cloudflare for CDN.
  • Proficiency in React (including state management with Context API, hooks) and strong front-end development skills.
  • Experience with Directus or similar headless CMS and the ability to transition off Directus to a custom-built backend.
  • Self-starter capable of working independently and driving decisions autonomously.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA compliance and encryption standards.
  • Experience integrating biometric sensor data or real-time biofeedback into applications is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Elasticsearch and building search functionality is a plus.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and automated deployments on AWS.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work without direct supervision.
