Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group):

Melt Development process engineer/scientist supporting new product development and new equipment design
Span the movement of new glass compositions/products from research, through development and into manufacturing
Development of melt process expertise on technical career track

Day to Day Responsibilities:
Analysis of properties of new glass compositions to provide expectations for research melter process and production process
Work with research melter, division engineering and manufacturing staff to develop process plans, including experiment plans
Learn from and work under the direction of Development experts (Associate/Sr. Associate/Fellow) to provide calculations and assessments
Hands on operation of new equipment, development of startup and operations SOPs
Execution on-site of new SOPs with iterative updates based on real-time learning
Creation and execution of experiment plans • Process data analysis and interpretation
Deliver documentation (reviews/RTR) and capture IP as needed
Build network and reputation across organizations

Travel Requirements (please note if international):
25% average travel, Open to negotiated long-term assignments
Domestic Travel (Harrodsburg) and International travel (France, Asia)

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
40 hours per week/flex time

Required Skills (These are skills that candidates MUST possess):

Availability for travel to Kentucky, France and Asia
Able to apply critical thinking and engineering principles to solve complex problems.
Understanding of chemistry and physical properties
Literature searches and report writing
Succinct communication of complex ideas
Ability to work in a highly matrixed and diverse organization across research, development, engineering and manufacturing

Desired Skills (These are skills that would be nice for candidates to possess):

Desire to develop on technical track toward Development Associate
Ability to translate specific data/observations into chemistry and physics to develop testable hypotheses
Open to 1-6mo assignments in Asia and France over the next 5 years
Experience in glass manufacturing plant environment.

Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration):

M.S. or higher Glass Science, or Material Science.

Soft Skills (Communication/Team/Leadership):
Open minded, able to share ideas and collaborate with other experts across many functional groups
Communication of complex physics and chemistry to both technical experts and non-expert audience
Technical leadership
Ability to benefit from the expertise of others
Independent
Strong interpersonal skills due to highly diverse teams
Ability to work within a team environment and interact with cross functional teams with a strong tie to Development, Engineering and Manufacturing.
