Job Description:

Provide support to the Media Manager of PETA’s Laboratory Investigations Department (LID) and Regulatory Testing Department (RTD) and to secure productive media coverage about PETA and animal testing issues

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Perform administrative responsibilities required to keep the media files for LID and RTD organized, up-to-date, and running smoothly
  • Maintain contacts, correspondences, files, and research in the appropriate databases—including archiving and organizing all files
  • Pitch select news releases to media, including those involving protests and campaign actions
  • Create, update, research and organize media lists for the Media Manager, including for breaking news stories
  • Develop and sustain relationships with members of the media and contacts, communicating in a professional and punctual manner
  • Route LID and RTD news releases, sometimes under a tight deadline, to relevant staffers for editing and proofing
  • File final releases and media lists
  • Create and disseminate coverage and media reports for all LID and RTD pitches
  • Monitor news stories for relevant mentions and leads
  • Efficiently collaborate with other PETA departments to prep media materials
  • Take and distribute clear and comprehensive meeting notes
  • Perform any other relevant duties assigned by the department or supervisor

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of two years of administrative support experience
  • Some experience coordinating coverage and interviews with members of the media
  • Demonstrated stellar online research skills
  • Demonstrated exceptional written communication skills
  • Proven excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and follow through
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Proven ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional manner, with confidentiality at all times
  • Proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, OneDrive. Familiarity with Asana and PR Software, will be helpful!
  • Support for PETA’s philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA’s positions on issues
  • Commitment to the objectives of the organization

The hourly pay range for this position is $17.00 to $20.66 per hour. The ultimate hourly pay within this range that will be offered to a qualified candidate will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and the cost of living in the area in which the candidate will live and work.
