The Upper Room is currently hiring for the following open position: Marketing Manager, Books and Devotionals (Exempt), Reports to Executive Director of Marketing and Innovation
The Marketing Manager, Books and Devotionals is responsible for the strategy, development, and activation of integrated marketing and added-value promotions for all facets of publishing: The Upper Room Books (Editorial) and Daily Devotional Guides (Editions). Will act as a key liaison between Editorial/Editions and Marketing, helping to shape and develop new book and magazine products, marketing strategies, promotion, and circulation for primary language editions. Work closely with content creators, contributors, authors, publishers, and editors to develop and execute marketing strategies to increase the visibility, reach, and sales of books and daily devotional guides. The ideal candidate would have experience in brand and marketing strategy development; demonstrated competency in project management and managing client/partner relationships; plus a solid knowledge of marketing, branding, sales, and communications principles.
Essential Job Functions include:
- Visions, communicates, and oversees the implementation of a marketing strategy. Directs creation and implementation of annual marketing and promotion plan for Upper Room Books and The Upper Room Daily Devotional Guide (and additional language editions). Focuses marketing efforts on customer and subscriber acquisitions, retention, and engagement.
- Collaborates with content creators and editors to develop an effective marketing strategy for books by identifying target audiences, coordinating publicity opportunities, and outlining promotional activities. Establishes a strong online presence for books and daily devotional guides in coordination with the Marketing Team utilizing email marketing, search engine optimization (SEO), content marketing techniques, etc,; circulation growth; and reaching established revenue targets.
- Coordinates with the Sales and Advertising Manager and Marketing Team to implement advertising campaigns to attract readers and subscribers. This may include online advertising, social media marketing, print advertisements, book signings, author interviews, and other promotional events. Collaborates with sales teams and distributors to ensure the book is available in various formats (print, e-book, audiobook) and through different channels (bookstores, online retailers, distributors).
- Assists with branding and promotion process to assist with author branding, highlighting contributors, organizing virtual events, coordinating speaking engagements, repurposing content, and design collateral.
- Manages publicity and public relations activities, including handling media relations and engaging with creators, bloggers, and influencers to secure book reviews, interviews, and other coverage like writing press releases, developing media kits, community engagement, and building relationships with relevant contacts in the publishing industry.
- Strategizes, creates, and writes integrated marketing proposals for The Upper Room Editorial and Editions across multiple categories. Evaluates outcomes and adjust plans to ensure future success. Scale group/bulk subscriptions and B2B strategies.
- Develops and manages the marketing budget for The Upper Room Books and daily devotional guides.
- Works with Innovation Operation Team to conduct market research to determine marketability, identify trends, understand reader preferences, and assess competition. Monitors and analyzes marketing campaign performance using various analytics tools.

Education / Experience
Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalency required. Advanced degree or post-graduate education preferred.
