Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is seeking one (1) graduate student intern to join the Source Control Pollution Prevention Division within SPU’s Drainage & Wastewater Line of Business. Investigations & Wastewater Source Control Intern will learn and assist with various components of field site visits and investigations into sites with drainage issues reported by customers.
As the Investigations & Wastewater Source Control Intern, you will play a large role in helping the SCPP research SPU and other City Department’s records. The intern will assist in preparing the summaries of investigation, keeping accurate and detailed notes, updating database or other similar applications, and play an important role in communicating with customers in person during field site visits, and via email or phone including explaining SPU or other City policies or codes to customers. This role offers a unique chance to gain professional experience with data entry, creating and/or improving reports that present complex data in a simplified, accurate manner to a variety of audiences.

There is currently one (1) internship opportunity available at the graduate level. The internship is for up to 18 months or graduation, whichever comes first.

Qualifications
Education: Must be a graduate level student pursuing a degree in in Urban Planning, Environmental Science, Public Administration, Communication, or related field.
Graduate students must be enrolled on either a part-time or full-time basis and maintain a 3.0 GPA for the duration of the internship.
Exception: Students are not required to be enrolled during the summer sessions but must provide documentation of continued Fall enrollment at end of Spring quarter.
Licensing Requirements: Current State of Washington Driver’s License
Additional Information
Hours: During school sessions, work hours will be scheduled to complement class schedules (15-20 hours per week). The internship opportunity may permit up to 40 hours per week during breaks and summer months. Work is normally between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday.

These internships allow for the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. During breaks, interns may work up to 40 hours per week and will be required to come into the office twice a week. However, while school is in session, individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.
