The Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) seeks to fill a Permanent/Fulltime Graphic Designer II position in the Office of External Affairs (OEA). Under the direction of the Multimedia Marketing Manager (SSM I Supervisor) and the direction of OEA leadership, the Graphic Designer II (GD II) is a full journey person who, in coordination and collaboration with the Graphic Designer III and Graphic Design student assistants, designs and produces high-quality graphics and videos to educate the public on health, safety and labor materials, and publications with the highest-quality aesthetics for print, online publishing, multimedia, and other media. The incumbent collaborates with other bilingual staff or contractors to produce multilingual videos, podcasts, publications and graphics. These tasks involve a high level of difficulty, analysis, creativity, and attention to detail as well as project management skills. The Graphic Designer II performs these tasks in consultation with the Graphic Designer III and under the director of the Multimedia Marketing Manager. The Graphic Designer II works with departmental subject matter experts and program management in the development and implementation of program-specific digital marketing efforts to improve the delivery of services through an array of digital channels, platforms, and devices. In collaboration with OEA staff and the Graphic Designer III, the GD II creates overall visual concepts for marketing and technical deliverables to communicate ideas that inspire, inform and captivate the wider audience.
Will consider Temporary Authorization Utilization (TAU) appointments - Candidates that meet the minimum qualifications for the classification but do not currently have eligibility on an employment certification list by having taken and passed an examination may apply as a TAU. TAU appointments are limited to a duration of nine months within a 12 consecutive month period. For a TAU appointment to become permanent, individuals must take and pass the related examination, and thereby become eligible from a certification list, within 9 months of TAU appointment. Individuals who successfully obtain eligibility prior to the expiration of the TAU appointment will not be required to re-compete in a competitive process for permanent appointment to that position.

Working Conditions
Position located at: 1750 Howe Ave, Suite 130, Sacramento, CA.
The ability to use a computer, telephone and other office equipment such as copiers and scanners is necessary. The incumbent is expected to maintain a hybrid work schedule with a minimum of two days per week in the office or more, based on operational needs. The position requires the ability to be stationary for long periods of time to work on a computer and safely move and transport office items.
The incumbent must handle sensitive and confidential materials and matters in a professional manner and establish cooperative working relationships with others. The incumbent has daily contact with other staff within the Office of External Affairs and also has contact frequently with staff in other DIR divisions, programs and units, and frequent contact with stakeholders.
