Job Description:

Working with the UCLA Asian American Studies Center Education & Information Technology team, the Front-End Developer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and integrating moderately complex front-end graphics, style, navigation, information architecture, and layout solutions for the existing website, CMS platforms, web services, and web applications. The Front-End Developer will collaborate with Center members, librarians, archivists, stakeholders, partners, and experts to conduct thorough analysis, requirement research, design specifications and information architecture, and detail complex solutions. The incumbent must ensure reliable and secure industry application code is delivered in all solutions. Additional responsibilities include, but not limited to, coordinating with campus partners to ensure all campus protocols, usability and accessibility, security protocols, industry standards, and practices are properly adopted.

Required/Preferred

Bachelor's degree in IS, CIS, CS or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred

Experience (typically three years min.) with HTML, JavaScript/TypeScript, CSS/SASS, NodeJS, AJAX, APIs, frameworks, SEO, and web animations.

Required

Working knowledge of a major JS Framework (e.g., React, Vue, Angular, etc.).

Required

Experience using collaboration tools and version controls (e.g., JIRA tracking, Git/GitHub, Teams, etc.).

Required

Experience in designing and developing websites with HTML and CSS that fully adhere to all current W3C and WCAG standards.

Required

Ability to translate original or provided design composites or mockups to current W3C and WCAG standards-compliant code using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, and related frameworks.

Required

Experience programming and integrating JS, AJAX, related libraries, and third-party API's including, but not limited to, Google, YouTube, Vimeo, Git, etc.

Required

Experienced and ability to develop, manage and maintain static and dynamic web pages and sites for cross-platform and browser compatibility, including mobile OS.

Required

Working knowledge of user experience (UX), user interface (UI), accessibility, information architecture (IA), design principles, form design and grid layouts.

Required

Working knowledge of development lifecycle, development-live environments, and rendering web sites to original design comps and testing of functionality across multiple devices and browsers.

Required

Experienced and skilled with graphics and layout applications such as Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, XD, Figma, and/or Sketch

Required

Familiarity with traditional print and electronic design principles.

Preferred

Experienced with maintaining and customizing a CMS driven web site (e.g., WordPress) with ability to explore working with and developing with content management systems.

Ability to identify and evaluate relevant new technologies and understand process for implementations.

Ability to prioritize assignments and work efficiently in a complex team environment with rapidly changing priorities, heavy workloads, and highly fluid authority structures.
