General Description:

The Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist (EHS) will be a key role, working with the Human Resources, Project Manager, Operations Supervisors, Maintenance Supervisors, and Engineering Group. The EHS specialist will promote worksite safety and environmental compliance by applying knowledge of Industrial processes. Provides subject matter expertise either through education, training, and/or experience in multiple areas including environmental management, compliance, occupational safety, risk management, and/or occupational health.

Essential Functions:

Duties will include coordination of daily Environmental, Health, and Safety functions and support activities, and track information including but not limited employee near misses, incidents, and accidents.
Responsible for ensuring that all work is conducted in a safe and healthful manner in accordance with all laws and regulations.
Responsible for ensuring OSHA compliance for the organization.
Responsible for Hazardous and Controlled Substance waste removal
Ensure that all site personnel are properly trained in the appropriate safety requirements for the job they are performing
Maintain health and safety records, perform safety inspections, and promote open reporting and correction/prevention of all safety incidents or concerns
Works independently and collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team, Managers, Supervisors and Leads.
Skilled in the use of computer programs and development of databases, spreadsheets, presentations and EHS literature
Reports to the EHS Manager and works closely with production, engineering, and maintenance departments.
Provides guidance, support and supervision to personnel assigned to support the projects
Maintains relationships with internal clients (e.g., engineering, operations, and contracts) and customer and contractor/subcontractor representatives to coordinate the administration and implementation of EHS functions on projects and facilities
Maintains contact with project EHS personnel to keep them informed of EHS issues and to ensure adequate technical support
Develops and consolidates EHS weekly and monthly project report data for distribution and periodic review
Track’s deliverables, action items and corrective/preventative actions across the project
Develops spreadsheets, workbooks, presentations, communications and EHS informational based literature
Recognized areas for improvement and makes recommendation to the Safety Committee and Function EHS manager with sound proposals
Collaborates with all employees, encouraging Safety suggestions to support continuous improvement
Conduct periodic Site Safety audits in conjunction with leading the Safety committee
Recognized as First Responder for the Site in emergency situations
Supports EHS Function with launching and promoting EHS initiatives and campaigns
Experience & Necessary Skills:

Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health, Safety Engineering, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or equivalent
Minimum of two years of experience in an Environmental Safety and Health position
Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification or 5 years of experience as an Environmental Safety and Health experience may be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree
Thorough understanding of federal and state policies and regulations
Experience in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology organization strongly preferred
Valid driver's license
Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations
Must be able to meet the physical capacity requirements of this position
Able to wear company-provided personal protection equipment if/when required
Able to work in a fast-paced environment and adaptable to change
Solid application skills and Microsoft Office
