Job Summary:
The OSP Design Engineer is responsible for coordinating all design and drafting of Shentel copper, coax, and fiber optic network projects utilizing Shentel’s design and drafting software. The OSP Design Engineer also creates accurate network maps, layouts, drawings, detailed electronic construction prints, and BOMs using field survey documents provided by Outside Plant Engineers; as well as designing large network augmentations and long term forecasts for various cable types.
Qualification Requirements:
Education: AS degree in a relevant engineering or technology field is desired. Other candidates with a strong technical background and substantial industry or military experience will be considered.
Experience Level:Special Requirements:
Strong project management experience
Knowledge of mapping or design in a Geospatial tool
Skill Requirements:Knowledge of:
Outside plant networks (copper, coax, fiber, ancillary optics)
Microsoft Excel, AutoCAD, Visio, Mapcom, Lode Data or other network mapping and design tools.
1-2 years of experience in the communications industry is preferred
1-2 years of experience in mapping or outside plant engineering disciplines to include copper, coax, or fiber optic design
Detail oriented and strong organizational skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously
