Job Description:

The Home Centered Care Institute (HCCI) is a collaborative non-profit with a mission of increasing access to home-based primary care (HBPC) thereby improving the quality of life for medically complex patients and their families. HCCI is passionately committed to its vision of bringing HBPC into the healthcare mainstream. In addition to being an authoritative source for clinical and operational best practices, HCCI is advancing the field of HBPC through education, consulting, research, and advocacy.

HCCI is looking for an experienced Director, Education - CPE Focus who manages the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of continuing medical education activities (e.g., in-person workshops, live webinars, Internet enduring materials, preceptorships) designed to train a workforce of clinicians and practice managers to provide home-based primary care (HBPC). The ideal applicant will have at least 7 years of experience with demonstrated success in the development and implementation of healthcare-related education and training activities, including needs assessment, evaluation, faculty development, and teaching methodologies. Experience in administering a learning management system (LMS) is also required.

The Director, Education will direct the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of continuing medical education activities (e.g., in-person workshops, live webinars, Internet enduring materials, preceptorships) designed to train a workforce of clinicians and practice managers to provide home-based primary care (HBPC). This role will analyst needs assessment data, develop learning objectives, and select instructional methodologies aimed at achieving desired outcomes in continuing medical education (CME)/continuing education (CE) activities. Confirms participation of suitable faculty/preceptors/subject matter experts and manages associated communications. Identifies and pursues opportunities to directly engage residents, fellows, advanced practice provider trainees, and their respective program directors, in educational outreach to develop the HBPC workforce pipeline. Ensures compliance of HCCI’s CME/CE activities with the accreditation criteria of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education and with the American Medical Association’s requirements for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.

A small non-profit, HCCI relies on its team members to work collaboratively with one another to solve problems, and the Director, Education will serve as a key communicator within the organization. As such, applicants should have experience building collaborative relationships within their workplaces.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Education Planning and Execution

  • Direct the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of HCCI’s education portfolio, including in-person workshops, live webinars, Internet enduring materials, and preceptorships.
  • Collaborate effectively with various partner organizations to propose, develop, and execute high-quality, HCCI-sponsored educational sessions at their national and regional conferences.
  • Conduct and analyze needs assessment studies to determine education and training priorities for HCCI’s learning audience, including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, and practice managers/operations staff.
  • Select instructional methodologies and oversee the development of educational content grounded in the identified learning needs of the target audience, articulating clear and relevant learning objectives, incorporating adult learning principles and best practice data, and endorsed by the affiliated subject matter experts.
  • Manage the implementation and facilitate delivery of education activities, e.g., attend in-person workshops to monitor learner engagement, assess faculty performance.
  • Design activity evaluations and analyze results to measure educational effectiveness and change(s) in learners.
  • Manage the onboarding, training, and continuing development of faculty/authors/preceptors to ensure consistent delivery of HCCI education activities.
  • Oversee the effective use of HCCI’s Learning Management System (LMS) as a mechanism for learners to register for live activities, participate in online courses, and track credits earned.
  • Ensure compliance of HCCI’s CME activities with the accreditation criteria of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education and with the American Medical Association’s requirements for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.
  • Directly manage the CME/CE credit approval processes for both live and web-based education activities, including preparing applications and reporting.
  • Ensure that activity descriptions, including faculty listings, CME/CE credit, etc., and recording archives and handouts are published on the website and/or the LMS are accurate and up-to-date.

Graduate Medical Education (GME)/Training Programs

  • Identify opportunities to establish relationships with appropriate GME/training programs in the Chicagoland area and beyond to directly engage residents, fellows, advanced practice provider trainees, and their respective program directors, in educational outreach to develop the HBPC workforce pipeline.
  • Work with subject matter experts to develop educational content appropriate for engaging an entry-level workforce audience.
  • Evaluate the impact of all outreach efforts with this audience.

General

  • Assist with or assume responsibility for managing special projects, as needed.
  • Provide recommendations for process development and organizational improvement.
  • Demonstrate commitment to one’s own professional learning, growth, and development.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience with demonstrated success in developing and implementing health care-related education and training activities, including needs assessment, evaluation, faculty development, and teaching methodologies.
  • Strongly preferred: Master’s degree (e.g., education, curriculum development, instructional design, organizational development/training; public health, healthcare administration); minimum Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Demonstrated success in project management is essential, including the ability to adapt to changing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Experience required in managing both live and in-person education activities web-based (live and enduring) activities.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Compelling work ethic, self-directed, and able to work independently while keeping the team and partners apprised of project status and next steps.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to effectively establish and maintain working relationships with peers and constituents at all levels of the organization.
  • Prior experience in administering/using a learning management system (LMS) is required.
  • Knowledgeable in the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) accreditation criteria and requirements for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ required.
  • Some meeting planning experience preferred.
  • Advanced skills required in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), proficiency, and/or some experience desired in Survey Monkey, Zoom Meetings/Webinars, and Adobe Pro.
  • Occasional travel required (<25%).
