Job Description:

Customs Entry Writer

Customs Brokerage Dallas, TX

$60,000 – $75,000 Base + Full Benefits

ABOUT

We are representing a privately held, internationally founded customs house broker and freight forwarder with a U.S. network covering six gateway cities and a Dallas office that has been operational since 1998.

They run a high-volume brokerage operation with a client base concentrated in retail, apparel, consumer electronics, and industrial goods. The Dallas team handles a significant throughput of air and ocean import entries, with strong ties to DFW International Airport and established relationships with CBP officers across the port. Their operation is built on precision and turnaround time, and their client retention numbers reflect a brokerage that consistently delivers both.

This salary sits at the top end of the Dallas customs entry writer market and reflects what they are looking for. They want someone who is beyond the basics, can manage a full entry load without supervision, and is either already pursuing a CHB licence or ready to.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Prepare, review, and transmit formal and informal customs entries through ACE/ABI, including CBP Form 7501 and 3461, ensuring full accuracy and compliance with CBP regulations and client-specific SOPs before submission.
  2. Classify imported goods using the Harmonised Tariff Schedule, applying correct HTS codes, duty rates, and valuation methodologies in line with CBP requirements.
  3. Review all supporting import documentation including commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and certificates of origin, verifying completeness and accuracy at every stage.
  4. File Importer Security Filings and manage PGA data requirements for shipments involving FDA, USDA, EPA, and other participating government agencies.
  5. Communicate directly with clients, carriers, and CBP to resolve entry queries, obtain missing documentation, and drive timely customs release on all assigned files.
  6. Enter charges and billing data into the freight management system accurately and within established file closure timelines.
  7. Support post-entry work including audits, duty calculations, protest preparation, and drawback documentation as required.
  8. Maintain and update client Standard Operating Procedures and escalate classification or valuation discrepancies to the licensed broker without delay.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  1. A minimum of three years of hands-on experience as a customs entry writer within a licensed customs house broker or freight forwarding operation, with a demonstrable track record of managing a full entry load independently.
  2. Strong working knowledge of ACE/ABI filing, HTS classification, CBP valuation rules, Incoterms, and PGA compliance requirements across multiple government agencies.
  3. Solid experience with ISF filing and entries involving complex PGA overlays.
  4. Proficiency in CargoWise or a comparable customs brokerage platform, with confident ACE portal navigation.
  5. A licensed customs broker or active pursuit of the CHB licence is strongly preferred at this salary level.
  6. Accurate and fast under volume pressure, with a disciplined approach to file management and documentation standards.
  7. Strong written communication skills for direct client and CBP correspondence.

WHAT'S ON OFFER

  1. Base salary of $60,000 to $75,000 dependent on experience.
  2. Full benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).
  3. CHB licence study support and exam fee reimbursement.
  4. Monday to Friday schedule, based in the Dallas office.
  5. A well-structured, professionally run brokerage with a genuine career path for someone who wants to grow into a senior or supervisory role.
