Created by UN Women, the HeForShe solidarity movement for gender equality provides a systematic approach and targeted platform on which men and boys can engage and become change agents towards the achievement of gender equality. The Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships and Advisory Services Section (MPAS) brings together UN Women’s multi-stakeholder initiatives through various partnership engagement. It convenes Private Sector Partnerships, HeForShe, Individual, Digital and Public Giving, the Unstereotype Alliance and the Women’s Empowerment Principles |WE EMPOWER-G7 and seeks to ensure that these are complementary and synergistic. MPAS is the driver of UN Women’s corporate engagement with the private sector both in terms of substantive partnership and resource mobilization, as well as leveraging the range of UN Women’s partnership vehicles and its National Committees to achieve maximum impact for gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Under direction from the Communications Specialist, HeForShe is looking for a Communications Consultant (Home-Based) who will be responsible for supporting the development of the communications and social media components of HeForShe’s new ‘glocalised’ strategy targeted at creating HeForShe country hubs across the world. The communication consultant will work to developed specified national social media campaigns to increase male engagement and increase concrete action from organisations and individuals on the topic of gender equality. The Communications Consultant will also support in partnership engagement in crafting compelling content for both organisation’s social media as well as support on managing social media for any relevant campaigns HeForShe conducts in Q1 of 2020. This is an ideal position for a hardworking, attentive, and outgoing individual looking to work in a collaborative and collegiate workplace learning from, with, among smart, interesting, and fun professionals. In light of COVID-19, this consultancy will be home-based until a move to HQ is appropriate and the necessary arrangements can be made safely.
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop engaging and compelling content for MPAS Initiatives (
Work with the MPAS division to provide support to the communications team and ensure an aligned approach with the broader division
Deliver the ‘just day bro’ campaign in collaboration with external partners
Generate a replicable communications framework that individual countries are able to adopt and adapt to best suit their national priorities
Leverage knowledge of marketing communications strategy across all channels including print, web, social media, mobile and video to grow the movement within countries
Coordinate communications and information flow from existing partners aligned with the campaign delivery timeline
Work with UN Women’s National Committees to ensure aligned approach of the engagement of national audiences for HeForShe, other MPAS initiatives, and major fundraising initiatives MPAS leads
Drives the development of content strategy
Researches, writes, edits and publishes materials for digital platforms that are captivating and SEO friendly for each country where MPAS initiatives have a presence
Utilizes creative digital and print marketing tools including dynamic emails, websites, blog posts, images, and video to enhance marketing efforts
Guarantees the quality of site, email and digital content to ensure copy, images, hyperlinks, and other assets, meet branding guidelines and are fully functional
Assumes accountability for accuracy and integrity of content
Build partnerships with internal stakeholders and UN Women National Committees
In support of an initial pilot engagement, identify and develop new communication partnerships and alliances to enhance the visibility of the MPAS initiatives movement
Continue to support the establishment of the cross-sectional communications team in MPAS and ensure partnership approach is streamlined throughout the division
Liaise with advocacy partners and undertake outreach to UN missions and other stakeholders to ensure their engagement under MPAS initiatives
Guide and collaborate closely with communications colleagues in other offices to ensure consistency with corporate policies, messaging and initiatives and to ensure content is localized and easily ready for use by country offices
Support the implementation of Strategic Partnerships for MPAS
Support the Private Sector partnerships team and MPAS initiatives on developing communications plans and social media kits to onboard and launch new partners and grow / evolve existing partnerships through active

Required Skills and Experience
Required Qualifications, Experience and skills:
Education:
An Undergraduate or Master’s Degree (preferred) in International Politics, International Relations, Communication, Arts, Marketing or other related field is required. Undergraduate Degrees require further two years’ experience.
Experience:
One year experience in communications, social media, press relations or similar is required
In depth knowledge and experience of working with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop) is required.
Experience working for or familiarity with the UN system is a preference
Language:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset
