Job Summary
Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Process Engineer with expertise in process engineering to support design, development, and operability of Kairos Power's first chemical production facility. The Engineer will serve as the main point of contact for all OSBL (Outside Battery Limit) related needs for the plant. You will provide overall process engineering expertise to guide the development of the front end design process and engineering design specification and ensure implementation during detail design relative to requirements and to monitor and appraise contractor performance during design, construction and commissioning services that may affect process engineering. Post design and construction phase, the role will focus on various on-site support for plant commissioning and operation capability.
Responsibilities
Serve as the main point of contact with expertise as the Outside Battery Limit (OSBL) process engineer
Develop OSBL design requirements in conjunction with external design firm including site utility base upon utilities consumption, determine storage requirements, determine general arrangements (GA) and site layout, and determine material handling, tank farms requirements
Work with design firm to ensure requirements are implemented in design
Interface with internal stakeholders to integrate OSBL tie-ins with existing site
Team with internal manufacturing and design teams to determine make v. buy decisions on tankage
Team with procurement to source equipment along with supporting equipment inspections
Participate in process hazard analysis (PHAs) and operability reviews
Coordination on commissioning and operating plan for equipment, including reviewing and supporting SOP generation
Ensuring design files and records are properly inventoried and maintained
Other work as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field
Eligible for P.E. Eng status or possess PE license in any state is desired
7+ years of experience with generating utility lists, foundation designs, tankage, pipe racking, and site storage
Experience working with engineering firms and SMEs to ensure design completeness
Experience in selecting, sizing, and working with process tankage
Experienced in reviewing vendor proposals, drawings, and documents for mechanical-related completeness
Proven track record with site upgrades with examples of pragmatic and creative cost, schedule saving measures
Skilled in finding, inspecting, and selecting process equipment
Experience in generating Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), utility consumption lists, mass and heat balance diagrams
Experience in general arrangement and mechanical packaging
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong written and verbal communications skills and the ability to articulate process issues and recommendations on a study report
Ability to work with highly collaborative team
Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently
Prioritizes and ensures safety of one self and others
Ability to proactively collect, manage and transfer knowledge
Ability to seek different and novel ways to create efficiencies when working on problems, challenges and issues
