Essential Job Functions

Seeking an Assistant Director of Communications to coordinate all publicity and media relations efforts for Appalachian athletics and its 20 varsity programs.

  • Manager of Appalachian State athletics’ official website (appstatesports.com)
  • Primary liaison with web provider
  • Oversee website redesigns
  • Maintain all-non sports-specific areas of website (e.g. Yosef Club, tickets, promotions, athletic training, compliance subpages)
  • Oversee implementation of all multimedia functions of website (e.g. videos, photo galleries, social media embeds, etc.)
  • Direct oversight/content management for all @appstatesports social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, etc.)
  • Work with individual sports and athletics department units to promote and coordinate consistency in social media messaging
  • Strategize the volume and timing of content based on the latest social media market research
  • Develop policies and procedures for content management and brand cohesiveness
  • Assist with the management of Appalachian State athletics’ official website (appstatesports.com)
  • Design graphics for official social media accounts and website. Responsible for guiding the look and feel of content, while maintaining brand standards
  • Instrumental in communication efforts for non-sport-specific athletics department units
  • Coordinate with marketing, sponsorships, ticketing, broadcast operations, Yosef Club and other units on cohesive and strategic flow of content
  • Primary strategic communications contact for specific sports, as assigned

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position

  • Experience in web design and professional utilization of social media required.
  • Must be proficient in basic HTML, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an athletics setting preferred.
  • Proficiency in basic audio and video editing preferred.

Project Management: Consults with and determines client/customer needs and project parameters. Plans and manages multi-faceted and specialized projects. Conceptualizes and creates communications as they relate to the area of responsibility from creation through delivery.

Knowledge Technical: Understands standard and routine communication, design and visual arts principles and concepts. Understands and applies a variety of standardized and commonly accepted design procedures and techniques. Understands and applies communication software programs as well as use of other applicable technology and equipment. Keeps current with technical developments and trends as they relate to the field of communications, public relations, publishing, marketing and Web-based communications.

Consultation/Advising: Assists with communications in needs and issues in routine and non-complex situations.

Communication-Verbal: Understands and communicates basic program information and routine, non-complex ideas; conveys information effectively to a targeted audience. Learns the communications environment and establishes working relationships with colleagues and clients.

 

Pay will be commensurate with applicant competencies, budget, equity and market considerations.
