Job Description:

Wentworth Institute of Technology is seeking applicants for the position of Advisor or Assistant Director, International Student Services and Engagement. (based on experience level).

The Advisor/Assistant Director, ISSE will report to and assist the Director of ISSE in supporting the overall experience of Wentworth international and exchange students, including immigration advising for F-1 visa holders, support of students’ cultural adaptation, and preparing for orientation events and other programs.

This role serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) and will be responsible for SEVIS record maintenance as well as supporting maintenance of current and future technology used for reporting. The Advisor/Assistant Director will engage regularly with the international student community through day-to-day interactions, development of and participation in on and off campus and activities, and support and advocacy for them as members of the campus community.

Responsibilities include:

 

 

  • Advising F-1 students on maintenance of status, work authorization including Curricular Practical Training, Optional Practical Training and OPT STEM extensions, travel in F-1 status and changes of status.
  • Participate in record keeping and federally mandated reporting to SEVIS, along with outreach to students regarding immigration-related issues, particularly those on mandatory co-op.
  • Assist in developing programs that are relevant to international students. This includes continuation of past programs such as international student orientation and additional programming or engagement opportunities as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining electronic files of international student records in accordance with federal regulations.
  • Assists in development of print and digital informational resources, as well as marketing materials.
  • Assists in the supervision of student workers.
  • Assists in outreach to relevant parties to coordinate meetings, materials, or other needs.
  • Support Director with internal and external communications, supporting updates of current or implementation of new software systems, participating on campus committees and/or local/regional/national associations.


The duties of this position are expected to be performed on campus.


The individual should exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational, analytical and problem solving. The individual should be student service focused and able to work independently as well as a team member in the Division of DEI and with other campus partners.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of F-1 visa regulations and the SEVIS system
  • Experience working successfully with non-native English speakers
  • Excellent customer service skills.
