Vice President of Construction

A well respected and financially sound general contracting firm north of Boston is seeking a well-rounded and experienced construction executive to lead its Pre-Construction and Operations Divisions. A demonstrated record of success in the above areas is required, and 10 years of construction leadership experience is desirable.  We provide a first-class office environment, competitive pay, bonus plan, benefits and a position that recognizes and rewards innovative spirit and accomplishments.

The successful candidate will provide day-to-day leadership and management of a staff that serves the overall strategic vision and goals of the company. They will be expected to continually improve systems and processes, while attracting and developing high-performing members of their team.  They must cultivate and maintain productive relationships with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors in both Pre-construction and Operations Phases. Their approach must be solution-oriented, prevention-based, time-sensitive, and utilize an organized, logical approach to working through issues.

The VP of Construction directs the activities of the Pre-construction and Operations Departments to ensure that the desired results are achieved.

Pre-Construction Responsibilities:

•     Lead our marketing and business development professionals in identifying, vetting, and pursuing new business opportunities that are aligned with the company’s strategic focus. The VP of Construction will play a key role in the sales process with both prospective and current clients, and take ownership for achieving our annual earned revenue targets.  We believe that satisfied clients, generating repeat business, are essential to our future success.

•     Lead the estimating department in developing complete bid packages including qualification materials, project estimates, bid schedules and proposals. Manage the estimating schedule and the workload. Lead post-bid discussions and negotiations in an effort to separate us from competitors and secure new work.

Operations Responsibilities:

•     Ensure a smooth transition from the estimate to field mobilization. 

•     Guide project management and field personnel in proper planning, subcontractor selection, timely buyout, and execution of the work. Monitor progress of each project, ensuring that processes and procedures are followed, timely paperwork is completed, and adjustments are made to keep the projects within budget and on schedule. 

•     Maintain regular contact with clients, building relationships at multiple levels to ensure their overall satisfaction with the Company’s performance. 

•     Communicate and implement necessary changed conditions to protect the company from liability and our clients form unnecessary expenses.

Necessary Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related area is desirable, but is less important than having the experience and expertise to do the complete job well.

Minimum of 15 years of commercial construction experience, including proven field experience and successfully handling leadership roles.

Must have significant experience overseeing commercial construction projects in the $2M-$25M+ range.
