Job Description:

Operates the telephone switchboard, answers and routes calls received by the hospital main number, and also pages doctors and hospital personnel. Handle emergency codes and pages, and respond to complaints professionally and courteously.

 

Job Responsibility:

1. Operates telephone switchboard.
  • Answers incoming calls on the main number and on the doctors incoming page lines.
  • Places various outside calls for authorized hospital personnel.
2. Performs various communications and/or emergency activities.
  • Pages hospital staff and handle emergencies such as codes, fire disasters, and contact emergency medical staff as necessary.
  • Pages authorized personnel overhead and other notifications, as required.
  • Provides the TTY (phone for the deaf) in a prompt manner.
  • Logs difficult/questionable calls and alerts appropriate management.
3. Performs routine clerical duties including, but not limited to …
  • Maintaining various records, files, and cards when contacting “on call staff” after normal business hours.
  • Provide and transfer beepers for staff via computerized system. Change battery for beepers and test to ensure that they are working properly.
4. Calls appropriate office when one of the alarms in the office sounds.
5. Provides patient information.
  • Gives out telephone numbers and room numbers as required.
  • Expedite calls.
  • Uses Rumba to access patient information.
6. Performs related duties, as required.
  • ADA Essential Functions

 

Job Qualification:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Ability to communicate in English, learn the console and related duties.
