Your Role
As the News Center Editor, Principal you will lead and manage the Blue Shield of California News Center. We are seeking a savvy editor and wordsmith to join our communications team. Reporting to the Director, Communications and Content, you will be a part of our Communications, Citizenship and Reputation team, responsible for collaborating with stakeholders, inside and outside the company, to tell Blue Shield’s story. To succeed in this role, you should be an excellent communicator, who is able to build strong rapport and trust among colleagues and clients.
Your Work
In this role, your core responsibilities are:
- Manage all aspects of Blue Shield of California’s News Center, including strategy, editorial calendar, writing, editing, interviewing, proofreading, and publishing on the web platform; Grow News Center subscribers and audience by leveraging search engine optimization (SEO) and other promotional tools to drive traffic and engagement
- Lead the Breaking News Team, identifying opportunities for Blue Shield’s thought leaders to speak to the news of the day; collaborate with our Creative Communications Team to create a variety of storytelling tools – such as infographics, video, photography – to enhance storytelling
- Manage and grow our team of freelance writers; provide editorial guidance to colleagues and edit their content
- Gather, analyze and report quarterly and annual performance metrics to improve content and engagement strategies; monitor digital communication trends to enhance News Center design (with developer support) and ensure strong UX (user experience)
- Lead creation and production of Blue Shield’s annual Mission Report
- Partner with executive leadership and key stakeholders to design and implement strategic communications plans in support of Blue Shield of California priorities with the goal of establishing, advancing and maintaining a favorable corporate reputation with targeted audiences, including employees, providers, brokers, public officials, opinion leaders, regulators, consumers and media
- Create employee communications that provide clarity, confidence and connection to our mission, strategy and leadership team
- Design executive visibility programs to build our brand and reputation and develop message platforms to ensure we tell a consistent story
- Oversee, develop and/or support corporate communications campaigns and strategies on corporate priorities. Writes, edits and/or approves, disseminates and coordinates messaging on issues or programs for use by all communications representatives in the company, including talking points, FAQs, statements, news releases, blog posts, presentations, letters, alerts and other documents
