Job Description:

Essential Duties: Directly reports to the high school Principal. “To Motivate Young People to be Better Citizens” Instructors will manage the educational, administrative and operational aspects of the unit as well as implement policies and procedures administered by MCSD and the U.S. Army.

  • Lesson plan and deliver engaging instruction using school approved curriculum aligned with Nevada State Standards
  • Create lessons and activities that involve engagement strategies with experiential, inductive and hands-on learning
  • Create an environment with a high level of mutual respect and manage daily classroom operations utilizing effective practices
  • Proctor and track assessments as identified in school assessment calendar
  • Communicate with families regarding student academic, behavioral, social and emotional progress
  • Conduct Parent/Teacher Conferences as identified by school calendar
  • Enter and maintain accurate attendance records in student management system
  • Enter and maintain accurate assignments and grades records in student management system
  • Provide supervision during transition times and recess as indicated by school schedule

QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: (KSAs are the attributes required to perform a job; generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education, or training.)

Knowledge of:

· Educational theory and teaching practices;

· Principles and methods for curriculum and training design;

· Teaching and instruction principles for individuals and groups;

· Measurement of training effects;

· Education code, board rules, district policies, and operating procedures.

· Classroom management principles

Skill to:

  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills to deal effectively with students, educators, parents, and community members.
  • Demonstrate excellent planning, organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, and time management skills.

Ability to:

· Provide instruction in a high school classroom.

· Work cooperatively with students, parents, peers, administration, and community members;

· Guide the learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals;

· Establish and communicate clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects;

· Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies aligned with instructional objectives, in order to meet the needs of all students;

· Participate as an active member with other faculty and staff;

· Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy;

· Maintain and improve professional competence;

· Communicate effectively both written and orally;

· Establish & maintain a safe and respectful learning environment for all students

· Think and act quickly and calmly in emergencies; and

· Prepare course materials, homework assignments, and handouts.

Required Certifications and Licenses

Must possess or be able to acquire a Nevada teaching license issued by the Nevada Department of Education. Certified in relevant subject area.

Experience and Training: Only Active Duty, Active Guard Reserve and Army Reserve retirees are eligible to serve as instructors in Army JROTC units.

  • Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited institution
  • Meet professional teacher education requirements of school and state
  • Single subject teaching credential, certification or endorsement if teaching a specialized subject
  • Relevant teaching experience
  • Knowledge of relevant technology
  • Compete the 5- step instructor training plan
  • Complete professional development at the JROCT School of Cadet Command (JSOCC)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
